What can I do to relocate my ONU/Data port at my house?

If you're thinking about relocating your internet equipment—such as the ONU (Optical Network Unit) or data port—within your home, it's important to understand what’s possible based on your connection type.

For FTTP (Fibre To The Premises) Connections

In FTTP setups, a DGtek-supplied ONU is installed inside your home, and its location is determined by the physical path of the incoming conduit (the pipe the fibre enters through). This setup means the ONU is effectively fixed in place.

Can it be moved?
Technically, in some cases—yes. But doing so requires a technician visit, and even then, relocation isn’t always possible. DGtek charges us for the visit regardless of whether the move goes ahead, and this cost is passed on to you.

In short:

  • Relocations are not encouraged.

  • Technician visits incur charges even if relocation isn’t possible.

  • If you still want to explore this option, we can contact DGtek on your behalf.

For FTTB (Fibre To The Basement) Connections

With FTTB, service is delivered via existing building Ethernet wiring to a specific data port in your apartment. This port is chosen for its connectivity to the DGtek network and the existing external cabling.

Can it be moved?
Usually not. The selected port is based on technical factors that aren’t easy to change. While it’s possible to assess alternative ports, this requires a site visit and—again—comes with a DGtek charge whether the port can be moved or not.

In short:

  • Port relocations are not recommended.

  • There is a cost involved, and the outcome is not guaranteed.

  • We're happy to request a site visit with DGtek if you still wish to proceed.

Our Advice

Unless absolutely necessary, we recommend leaving your ONU or data port where it is. Relocation is often more costly and complex than expected—and in many cases, simply not feasible.
